2/23/17: southern fare!

after a 2+ year hiatus, including the gestation and birth of a new child, mini supper club is back with a vengeance! I found a new oven fried chicken recipe and Neil has taken so many trips to South Carolina in the past few years that a southern theme seemed fitting. Cody assembled his famous salad, Neil baked an amazing peach cobbler (which moonlighted as an impromptu early birthday cake for me), and owen experienced his first official msc! ramona enjoyed the spicy fried chicken but not as much as she enjoyed the cobbler!!

owen is not sure yet how he feels about MSC

11/10/14: Taiwanese

ramona's first mini supper club and first noodle eating-playing experience!

Neil made taiwanese soup dumplings using green, seaweed-based agar. I made taiwanese beef noodle soup. We had taiwanese caveman cookies for dessert (just kidding, not taiwanese, but i happened to have some from the batch I baked on Friday).

he made the soup from delicious pork belly and other meats. the agar keeps it solid for assembling purposes, and melts when steamed

neil the master dumpling assembler

i slow cooked the beef for 8 hours

Mar 13, 2014: Impromptu MSC with pesto pasta and purim cookies

Neil came by to pick up his chair and we threw down an impromptu mini supper club. Good thing he showed up with purim cookies!
  • Linguine tossed with basil pesto, red onions, tomatoes, and red peppers
  • Cody's famous salad
  • Neil's purim cookies

Jan 31, 2014: Colombian

on the menu for our Colombian-themed mini supper club:
  • Sancocho (yes, I followed a Puerto Rican recipe, but close enough)
  • Arepas, aka crack, with guacamole

(note to self: i only needed 2 of those containers of beef broth. and i got the yucca and plantain at mi pueblo)

July 18, 2013: Georgian cuisine

neil recently got back from a trip to russia, which included a fantastic meal at a georgian restaurant (though he did not visit the country of georgia on this trip).  so we decided that georgian cuisine should be the theme of this mini supper club.

on the menu:

  • rice and mushroom pilaf - ruth
  • georgian fish dish - neil
  • churchkhela for dessert (pecans + cherries with a grape molasses glaze) - neil
  • Georgian saperavi that has been fermented and aged in the traditional qvevri - cody drove up to K&L in redwood city to pick up this bottle of wine
